April Fools Day

The best April fool's prank you can play on a beef producer......give them chicks!

My fellow employees and I decided to play a little joke on the boss.
You should have seen the reaction. Oh wait, here's a picture.

He says he will never speak to me again, but I think he liked the prank.
The chicks are so cute and they will fit right in at the farm. The farm crew really yucked it up.
We couldn't stop laughing.

Happy Birthday Deanna

Great Steaks are NO Mistake

Marketing Beef can be a challenge!! But it helps if you have some of the best tasting steaks you have ever had in your life. So, how do you judge the best steaks....ask the American Royal. The American Royal Steak Competition for 2013 is currently underway. They are looking for several criteria.
Filet Mignon
  1. Overall Tenderness
  2. Overall Flavor
  3. Juiciness
  4. Sustained Flavor
  5. Sustained Juiciness
  6. Flavor Finish
Munson Premium Angus Beef did very in 2012  well finishing in the TOP 10 nationally. We are very excited to learn the results of this years competition on October 9th at the American Royal 2013 Grapes and Steaks, which is a special event held annually. Our steaks will be judged in a blind taste test. I can hardly wait for the results! Charles and Deanna Munson picked out the very best steak for this years competition.

Munson Premium Angus Beef has created a well-marbled steak using time honored traditional cattle raising and cutting techniques. Our grass fed and corn finished prime quality beef is from our fifth generation Pure Bred Black Angus Cow Calf Herd. Our cattle do no receive growth hormones or antibiotics. Standard cuts do not contain shelf preservatives of color enhancers. Clay Center Meat Locker, where our beef is processed,  uses dry-aging and has the best meat cutters we could find. Lastly, our beef can be traced from pasture to plate, so you know what your getting. A great tasting steak, like the ones you would find in white linen steak house restaurants. Try one and you'll see that you can taste the difference!

Chimney Cakes

Chimney Cakes

This is so tasty and we are making them out at the farm.
From the Pencil Kitchen:

This pastry originates from Transylvania and it's very popular here in Hungary. You can get it at festivals, funfairs, at the beach, and even from carts on the street. It's usually made in an open fire, so it naturally won't be the same when made at home, it's still pretty tasty and I think it looks really cute.
750 g flour
2 eggs
100 g melted butter
200 ml milk
30 g yeast
100 g sugar
zest of a lemon
1 tbsp vanilla extract
pinch of salt

For rolling (in the deeeeeep):
oil
1-2 egg, beaten
coconut flakes
vanilla sugar
cinnamon sugar
ground/chopped walnut, pecans...etc

0. Collect toilet paper rolls. It might take some weeks. Cover them up in aluminium foil.
1. Dissolve the yeast in 100 ml warm milk (not hot) with a pinch of powdered sugar.

2. Combine all ingredients and knead the dough until it forms a ball that doesn't stick to the hand. Add more milk if dough doesn't come together. Cover it up and let it double in size about 1 to 2 hours.

3. When the dough rises, roll it out to about 0.5 cm thick. Try to keep dough in a round shape, then, cut it in a spiral manner.

4.Grease the aluminium rolls with some oil. Roll the dough strips along the outsides of the aluminium roll. Line the layers as closely as possible, even to overlap. Roll the dough layers in the middle of the aluminium rolls, leaving the ends of the roll clean. This will ease sliding the pastry off when they're done.

5. Coat the little chimneys with beaten egg using a pastry brush and roll them in preferred topping.

6. Bake at 200C for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cover with a cloth so they won't dry out. As most yeast dough pastries, they are best eaten fresh.

Lovely Day in Paradise

I love living here as it brings me down to earth. This morning I was greeted by my family as the sun rose and we hurried to get ready to go. The boy went to work out and I to work. When I arrived I was greeted by two handsome fellows....Sam and Duke. They must have been hot yesterday since they were both trying to get into the shade.

I am struggling to keep a promise and stay out of the auction house. Today's auction looks super. There's boxes from storage that have been unopened for ages. The owner was 80 yrs before his passing. It looks like it could be awesome. Lots of antiques and vintage items. My eye was drawn towards the fenton. I really like the little basket. They are very breakable though. I was talking to a 93 yr old woman the other day, and she has a similar piece which broke from washing with cold water.
The pitcher is also very cute and would like nice with my current collection. I don't have these pieces yet. the pitcher is currently selling on ebay for around $25 and the basket's market price right now starts around $45.00. Temptation is killing me!!!

That's it, I have to go to the auction. I am going to see what happens with the Fenton pieces. Maybe I won't buy anything at all (right lol). Hmm..I'll just spend $50.00. Oh, my...........the Fenton pieces went for $17.50 each which I felt was too high.

The kid zeroed in on a boy scout collection and got a brand new 27 year old pocket knife, 3 neckerchief ties, collapsible cups, and the like. He managed to spend more money at this auction than I did. Personally, I was outbid on almost everything I desired other than some linen fancy work, and a Harley Davidson earring and necklace set. Also, I bought a whole table of crap for $1.00 and ended up with 12 pepsi cola glasses, an Avon aqua colored jar, some crystal, a half a cup of coffee coffee cup (hilarious), some sewing essentials etc.
